Sara Toner, DVM
Dr. Sara Toner is originally from Ontario, Canada, where she grew up riding in the Hunter/Jumper circuit and working as a groom. She received her undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Biology and Sociology and Social Anthropology, from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, Canada. Prior to completing her veterinary education at the University of Calgary in Alberta, Canada, she worked as a Technician Assistant at Moore Equine Veterinary Centre, mainly in the MRI where she developed a deep appreciation for diagnostic imaging.
Upon graduation in 2023 with distinction, she received the Large Animal Surgery Proficiency Award and went on to complete a rotating internship at Moore Equine. Dr. Toner has publications involving the diagnosis, treatment, and response to therapy of collateral desmopathy and the successful treatment of a fungal infection of the upper respiratory tract. She also has manuscripts in progress regarding a case of objective tinnitus, cardiogenic pain as a differential for colic, and the seroprevalence and species identification of the bacteria Neorickettsia, responsible for Potomac Horse Fever.
Her interests in veterinary medicine include lameness, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, and surgery. In her spare time, you can find her with her orange and white cat, Peanut, paddleboarding, skiing, hiking, and mountain climbing, most recently Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
