Our veterinarians are available at home and on the road to provide your horse with the care he needs, from maintenance treatments to therapies to optimize performance and injury diagnostics and treatment.

We employ a variety of today’s most cutting-edge treatments, technologies– combined with commonsense horsemanship–to provide your equine athlete with industry-leading care.

Laser Therapy

Physical therapy tools stimulate the natural healing power in the cells of the body. One tool uses the energy of light, called photon energy, to stimulate the activity of certain cell components. By using photo energy, the veterinarian or the horse owner has a simple, effective, non-pharmacologic medical alternative. Conservative management of acute and chronic injuries and post-operative wounds has come to include the use of photo energy because it is quickly effective, cost effective, and easy to administer

P3 is an innovative and non-invasive electromagnetic therapy that provides deep tissue massage to help increase blood flow to the area being treated.

P3 Therapy

Our sport horses routinely provide us with their best efforts, and at Miller & Associates we understand the exposure they have to increased stress, strain and injury. So, we include P3 or “Pulsed, Peak, Performance” therapy as a part of our therapeutic and rehabilitative program.

P3 is an innovative and non-invasive electromagnetic therapy that provides deep tissue massage to help increase blood flow to the area being treated.

P3 treatment opens the lymphatic system and allows the body to transport waste products out of tissues, thereby relieving soreness. This therapy works through restoring missing electrical charges to damaged cells, allowing them to re-attain their natural electrical charge.

Clinical studies have shown that P3 therapy benefits equine athletes in a variety of ways, including:

  • Relief of back and gluteal muscle soreness
  • Treatment of muscle strain
  • Improved circulation
  • Joint stiffness
  • Tendon and ligament injuries
  • Would healing
  • Hoof growth

Because P3 therapy requires no sedation of the horse, it may be used frequently so is ideal for use as a part of your horse’s competitive routine.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy is used primarily in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in the equine athlete.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy is used primarily in the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions in the equine athlete. It is commonly used to treat muscle soreness, especially in the lower back, as well as injured tendons and ligaments.

Shockwave works by stimulating an increase in blood flow to the treated area. Increased circulation helps to stimulate local tissue metabolism, and, consequently, healing of connective tissues such as tendons and ligaments, as well as bone.

ESWT also has an analgesic, pain relieving effect, and can be used to alleviate the discomfort from sore muscles, especially in the lower back.

ESWT has the advantage of being very safe and non-invasive.

Therapeutic Ultrasound is used in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries in the horse. It is particularly effective in the treatment of acute, or sudden onset, conditions involving a horse’s muscles, tendons, ligaments, or joints.

Therapeutic Ultrasound

Therapeutic Ultrasound is used in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries in the horse. It is particularly effective in the treatment of acute, or sudden onset, conditions involving a horse’s muscles, tendons, ligaments, or joints.

The benefits derive from different properties of Therapeutic Ultrasound.

Treated tissues absorb sound waves, resulting in an increase in the local circulation. This is referred to as the “thermal” effect of therapeutic ultrasound and helps to reduce the inflammation and swelling which accompany an acute injury.

In addition, there is a “non-thermal” effect of Therapeutic Ultrasound, which results from the physical passage of the ultrasound waves through tissue, as opposed to their absorption. This is thought to help stimulate the tissue repair process.

Therapeutic Ultrasound therapy is easy and safe to administer. It is non-painful and very well tolerated by most horses.
