Diagnostics

Blood Analysis

The availability of comprehensive, reliable test results is a vital function of the care provided at C. B. Miller and Associates. Our laboratory services include serology, hematology and serum chemistries. We also utilize a large network of referral laboratories to provide fast and accurate results.

Gastroscopy

Available to the doctors is a portable, full color 3 meter video gastroscope for the diagnosis in the field of stomach ulcers and other conditions. Also in every truck is a 100cm endoscope for examination of upper airways and other structures.

MRI

Patterson Veterinary MRI is a collaborative effort between C. B. Miller and Associates, New England Equine, Pine Bush Equine, and Dunbarton Equine. The MRI is located at the New England Equine Practice, in Patterson, New York.
While some veterinary MRI units are only capable of imaging a horse's hoof and pastern area, the Patterson Veterinary MRI acquires images up to the middle of a horse's front or hind limb, the head, and neck. A precise diagnosis is critical for accurate and effective treatment, and the addition of MRI to our practice allows us to obtain the highest quality images of all tissue types bone, soft tissue and cartilage.
MRI is unique in providing information on the condition or physiologic state of these tissues. For example, it will identify active inflammation within bone or specific tendons and ligaments. These are important causes of lameness in performance horses, but cannot be identified with even the most advanced radiographic or ultrasound equipment. We can now identify injuries or ailments that would previously have required an exploratory surgery.
A typical scan takes between 1 and 2 hours.

Radiology

Our focus is on diagnostic imaging, with a mobile x-ray unit that provides instant digital images for viewing on a portable monitor. This allows the veterinarian to assess the image quality immediately, thereby avoiding costly and time consuming trips to process standard x-ray cassettes. The image quality with a digital machine is also much better when compared to standard images. The images are stored on a database in our office, and are easily accessible for review by our staff.

Ultrasound

Another component of our diagnostic imaging capabilities is the ultrasound machine. The ultrasound images are captured in a digital format on new, state-of-the-art digital machines, and then stored in our image database. This effectively does away with bulky paper printers and insures the endurance of a quality image.
